My mind just exploded. This is better than peanut butter and Chocolate! Clint Mansell's score for The Fountain is one of my favorite albums of all time and the Mass Effect Series are two of my favorite games.

Personally, I'm for more synth, but really, Clint Mansell can do amazing music without it. Just listen to the soundtrack to the Fountain, AKA the greatest movie score ever made.
