They've never said it's as fast as a pure SSD, but that it's faster than an HDD - the other advantage is price.
I use both of them together because they offer pretty different feature sets outside of system maintenance. For example tinker tool offers lots of dock and desktop options that I want, whereas Onyx has none of those.
