Considering the majority of people in this country have wanted to keep abortion legal for most of my adult life, I’m starting to doubt the effectiveness of representative democracy.

Too much effort is being spent to do things to make a vocal minority feel better about the world than actually do anything to make it

I don’t think they’re useless by choice, but right now they need to win by so many more points than republicans, it’s almost impossible for them to have true majorities (as in, they could pass stuff without manchin or sinema having the power to block everything).

Is he? I hope he is, but I’m not so sure. It seems to me that despite his (arguable) decline in popularity, he still has the ear of a lot of the whackadoo Right, and those people have a disproportionate bearing on politics.

I am, once again, disgusted by Congressional Republicans saying Biden’s being soft on Putin when their Dear Leader still can’t get high enough up Putin’s asshole.

They’re not valid security concerns because it’s not like countries joining NATO don’t want to join NATO and get closer to the West instead of expressing fealty to Putin.

It took months and this is how Jezebel finally even pays lip service to this crisis? Absolutely embarrassing.

Not a great look to imply that people care about this war more because it involves white people, while referring to a war “in” Boko Haram.

Not that I expect brilliant international relations analysis from Jezebel, but I have to love how for all the complaining about imperialism, this is the most America-centric analysis of Ukraine I have ever seen. There isn’t even a mention of Europe, their over reliance on Russian gas (especially Germany), NATO,

There’s a hundred different angles you can look at this story from, but both the article and most of these comments aren’t really taking into account how this has actually played out. The IOC itself (not to unilaterally defend the IOC, they’re weird and fucked for any other number of reasons) seemingly wants to ban

Whoever wrote this blog, never heard about Eteri.

Valieva has been happily infantilized in the press, noted for liking stuffed animals and her dreams of traveling the world.

Agree that letting Valieva compete is egregious. That being said - her case is a LOT different than Richardson’s and you shouldn’t compare the two. Is race a factor? Probably because people are racist. But also, Valieva is a 15 year old child who is coached by a notoriously evil woman (Eteri Tutberidze) who will stop

Seems fairly dishonest for Emily not to mention the fact that the CAS and IOC had absolutely nothing to do with Richardson’s ban.

This is, indeed, a take. One that ignores pretty much everything about the differences between these two decisions except for race, sure, but still a take.

She doesn't have to give all her wealth to one group...

I don’t know. They’ve shed a lot of light on who gets abortions in this country, and it’s not poor minorites who think abortion is regular birth control.

Guttmacher is not a think tank. They are a world-class leading research and policy organization. They are the ones generating the research that is cited in cases like those being argued at the Supreme Court and state courts. Yes, we need to fund millions directly to abortion funds and clinics. But let’s not act like

Also first person to ever successfully pull off a daily NBA show for ESPN, has covered the league for years, and has done her damnedest to break through the glass ceiling at one of the most male dominated industries.

She did it completely privately. Given the system we have — which is systemic preference favoring whites, then preference at point of hire/promotion/admission (for colleges) for minorities— it is an entirely natural and logical reaction for white people who don’t get hired/promoted/admitted to think “if i were black,

Let’s be more fair and realize that the bad one here is ESPN and not really Rachel. Why does ESPN get away with basically making it that only 1 female reporter is part of the show? And for context, Rachel has been there for a looong time, so in terms of seniority she was the one getting the job. On top of that, Rachel
