I’ll offer this ray of hope. Probably won’t get out of the greys, but it’s worth saying.

Your dev is not wrong, when making a game, you tend to underestimate the difficulty considerably, I’m not a game dev but I did do several mod for warcraft 3 and was surprised to see how many people had issue with stuff that I deliberately spent time making easy regardless of the chosen skills.

I doubt that will work any better than getting the driver involved as whoever takes over comes in with no situational awareness.
