Maybe, I haven't had time to check very well, but after my Windows 8 updated to 8.1, I found some kind of third "desktop", there was the Metro display, the regular desktop (without the Start Button) and a new one, maybe the one you mention, with the "Start Button".

The problem is the Microsoft should have add the Start button to the desktop, but instead they added a third screen, now you have: 1) The Metro screen 2) The Windows 8 desktop screen, and 3) a new screen with the start menu.

I love the IBM Model M. But I need a big enter and a long backspace to type so my favorite keyboard is the Logitech K200 (Spanish distribution).

You can build a laptop, but it's basically the same that buying one, because you have to buy the mother+case+screen+keyboard+touchpad in one part, (maybe even the processor comes included) and then buy apart the HDD and memory. It's not a very good deal.
