Nope. Not an MRA, not an anti-feminist, not a 4chan or Reddit user.

"Only" 18 percent? Call me a glass half empty kind of person, but that percentage seems way too high to be dismissed so cavalierly.
women have very little, if anything, to gain from falsely reporting a rape
False rape accusations exist and people make them for reasons that have nothing to do with rationality or logic. They're not as common as MRAs claim nor are they as rare as some feminists would have you believe. Your reporting on a fact shouldn't be dependant either on your fear of bolstering MRA propaganda OR…
That's the typical Jez author response to someone pointing out they're wrong/being hypocritical. Dismiss the comment and hope no one catches on.
It's true that women have little to gain from falsely REPORTING a rape. However, she didn't report it; she posted it on an online thread. Thats quite a different thing. I've known a lot of girls who claimed that a guy raped them or hit them, but never reported it. Some of them may well have been telling the truth, but…
I think "she's a vile piece of work, but I guess if one had to identify a positive aspect of her character or behavior, it's the fact that she publicly retracted accusations which completely ruined a man's reputation" would be more suitable.
I met joanie faircloth on Facebook. She joined a few groups I was in. She lied constantly and even went as far as telling a friend if mine that she owned a house she would rent to her if she would move there. For months she continued this farce. My friend loaded up everything she owned and moved her children states…
#NotAllWomen are automatically telling the truth when they say someone raped them. That doesn't mean others aren't telling the truth.
Yes. Yes. Yes. We should all be fucking furious about this, about people like this. This is the kind of shit that give rape apologists amo. People like this make every victim less believable, and the climate towards sexual abuse survivors hostile and full of distrust. Fuck this horrible person and her desperate…
That's terrible, poor guy :(
well he was suing her, demanding she recant. so admitting her false accusation probably has more to do with that than suddenly feeling badly for accusing him to begin with.

Yes. There are too many implications if she were to serve jail time, First, we want people who are lying to be able to say they are lying without repercussion, otherwise she may never have told the truth and he may have been sent to jail. Secondly, your point stands. The last thing we need is barriers to people…
I find myself incredibly frustrated with Jezebel's response to this story. Just as you rightfully call out people who commit rape (proven cases) you should call out assholes like Faircloth in this situation. Be outraged! This is a disgusting act that makes it more and more impossible for people actually raped to be…
she let it go on until interest started to wane and then she did this to get more attention.
Can't wait to see this story linked every time someone accuses a celebrity of rape from now on. Way to go sister! You are a horrible, horrible person.
It's a bad decision that she kept making over and over again, perpetuating the lie. I imagine she got caught up in the attention but it was a truly harmful lie (for Oberst and sexual assault survivors).
I hope she's able to, this must have been really tough on her. And, you know, Mr. Oberst, the falsely accused rapist.
