This. The lawyer was absolutely a disgusting asshole, but he's paid to be a disgusting asshole if that's what helps his client. The judge had no such excuse.

Our legal/court system, derived from medieval trial by combat, really shows its imperfections and lack of decency in these cases. That said, I think the trial judge could have brought the defence attorney to chambers and stopped his victim blaming cross examination.

Eww. Just eww. As a JHS teacher, allow me to be very clear: if a student shows any kind of inappropriate interest (and sometimes they do), YOU BE THE ADULT. You tell them it is not appropriate. You arrange for the two of you to never be alone in the same space. You let your department head/supervisor/administrators…

What is frustrating to me about this whole debacle is that, once again, a woman's issue is being reframed as a talk about men. Just paragraphs and paragraphs about men and who is harassing and their race and just every possible permutation of that and racism against men of color and white male privilege etc, etc.

I'd love to see them show what it's like for a fat woman. The level of hatred and violence directed at me would astonish.
