Which after-credit tease are we talking about? Apparently there's 2, the one which the cast of The Avengers recently filmed on their premier day and the one which shows a villain for the future films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I only saw the latter when I saw the film.

In the movie, they're only referred to as the Chitauri. Its only a name-drop, the movie doesn't go deep into the lore or history of the alien invaders - we only just know their name.

Because the movies has the immediate credits, which is animated somewhat to the traditions of The Avengers, shots filled with Cap's Shield, Thor's Hammer etc etc. Its just a small credit dedicated to the main crew; cast, producer and director - with the "Mid-Credits" Screen following with Thanos featured in it.

Oh what? Aren't Anya and Wash on the guest-list as well? ;)

Wow - is that enough time to add The Avengers? I'm watching it tomorrow (15th) as part of the pre-screening, so its hard to believe that it'll actually make it to the final film. Still hopeful though.
