those files should be able to play through the device anyway just don't share them through itunes. I use the AllCast app to stream movies to my TV that i have saved to my dropbox or my computer, that were downloaded from iTunes, or ripped from a DVD/CD.

Check out the App Timely on android. you can set it to make you solven a simple puzzle when it goes off. then not only can you not just smash a snooze button, but you also have to think first thing in the morning which gets you ready to get up.

Love my ChromeCast. If you think it is limited you need to get the right apps to use with it. For Android i recommend AllCast for you desktop i recommend GoogleCast
