I will never understand these minuscule investments made by governments. $3 million is a paltry sum when you consider how much it would actually cost to fully develop any new technology.

$30 million is a comically low sum for any field of research, especially one as unexplored as autonomous cars. Not to be a buzzkill but this shouldn’t be considered a serious effort as it will likely yield zero useful new technology.

Yes they’re welcome to the benefits because they also pay U.S. tax and hire American workers. There has to be some incentive for companies to invest here; they have to get something in return for filling IRS coffers and handing out paychecks to Americans. We can’t just bury them financially and expect them to thank us…
