I had a lot of downtime when I was 15 and working at a grocery store, so I'd get a copy of Motor Trend to read. Soon after, I found Jalopnik, and the rest is history.

@dahliacactus: Exact same thing happened to me. The deer ran off after I hit it in its thigh around 35. The next day I found some fur on the broken headlight and quarter panel. Installed a replacement light from my local used parts place, and got rid of the car a few months later over spring break.

@johnnyichiban: That's the point. It's supposed to be a crappy car! It's supposed to be a car that no celebrity would ever be seen it, which is why it needs to be terrible. The Mazda3 isn't even reasonably-priced - it can get to well over $22k. So that's out.

@msweston: The UK version uses the cheapest Kia, so why shouldn't the US one do the same? There's no reason to be against this - it's SUPPOSED to be a bad car. The Focus or Fusion would be too expensive - it's a reasonably-priced car, which means a cheap car. A Fusion can push $30k with options. A Rio can't go over…

@milkplus: There were the Toyota commercials that they claimed their cars were safe, right as we learned that they totally weren't. But other than that, they all just announce sales and stuff.
