Exactly, the iPad 1 was most certainly groundbreaking. The iPad 2 is just a faster version of it. With that said, yes the Fire would exist without the iPad 2.

The fire is clearly groundbreaking, given that it is a $200 tablet with a ecosystem strong enough to latch people in, like Apple's. The MacBook Air is also groundbreaking because of its size, power, and price. It's totally the future of the laptop.

I'll throw my $.2 in. I love the design of the Fire - very clean and non-descript, but the lack of buttons is unnerving. If I am playing a game, for example Bejeweled, it's at least a 3 tap process to change the volume.
