In the early 80s all their food was fried and kept under glass at the counter. The fish/chicken et.al. all rested on a (6-12in?) mattress of probably days old batter crumbs and they would scoop up said batter crumbs, place it in a basket and then place your chicken/fish/fries on top.

My mother had a policy of “Don’t do anything to embarrass me”. And we quickly learned what that meant, as she had no problem with walking the disruptive child out while leaving the others with the other adults. Dinner, movies, shopping (she promised to make the years clothes for the kid who screwed up here) - she

Fairly recently, I saw a family come into a restaurant with a bar and proceed to let their kids run amock while the parents ordered alcoholic drinks and settled in. Their daughter (couldn’t have been older than 6) ran behind the bar where employees were working multiple times. The manager came over to talk to the

I am old, but if I hadn't been able to stay in my seat without disturbing other patrons, I would have been left at home with a sitter. My experience is that people 20 or 30 years younger than me don't necessarily feel the same.

My thoughts exactly.  It sounded gross at first, then as I read more I got excited, then when I saw it was a fakeout I was disappointed, now I want to try one.

I couldn’t imagine paying MSRP for half these cars. Over MSRP? Not a chance in hell, particularly for the Kia/Hyundais and Fords.

That four square worksheet nonsense to get people to focus on the monthly payment has to be working on some people.

This. Paying over MSRP? Keep shopping. No car is worth it. They are overpriced to begin with.

Could this list basically be an indication that Nissan,Ford and Kia have a greater share of crappy/scamming dealers than other brands?

It’s still a touch nuts to buy anything, especially if one is financing. The way new car prices are going, it’s gonna be nuts, regardless. 7-year car loans are already bananas.

19% over MSRP for a *KIA Rio* proves that there are suckers born every day. I assume part of this is because they will finance anyone who can fog a mirror? At least based on the radio ads for the KIA dealerships around me.

A skeptic might point out that it looks like Albertsons was just hiding a number of its stores in a competitor’s portfolio until they could be scooped back up post-merger

Back in the day us poors could go to LJS w/ 50 cents and buy some hushpuppies and a basket of grease droppings batter crumbs.

I love me some Captain D’s (similar to LJS) - not gonna lie. But we live on the Gulf Coast and there’s a place downtown (about a mile away) that has the best fried mullet and backbone and oysters I’ve ever had in my life. When I get the itch for fried food, I usually just go there. Yeah, so any fast food fish is a

There’s also Captain D’s which is basically the same concept as Long John Silver’s. I grew up with Long John Silver’s so Captain D’s scratches the itch I get about once a year to load up on fried fish and hush puppies then go pass out before the grease starts seeping out of my pores.

It was great living there and getting to know it outside of the French Quarter. It’s even more interesting and fun than tourists who stick to the French Quarter or to Mardi Gras know. But, you do get tired of it because it really is “the city that care forgot.” It can be very hard to make a living there because it’s

Correct. Without some sort of regulation, the market will inevitably become a monopoly or oligopoly, similar to what we have in the energy sector or cable/internet providers in specific areas.

I can day-drink year round, too, but when I plop my folding chair between the streetcar tracks along with a cooler of Miller Lite in the middle of June, people look at me weird.

I miss New Orleans out of all the places I’ve ever lived. It’s a really, really, really special place and wholly unique in a way that no other American city I’ve been to is. Maybe San Francisco. Gumbo is also my fave although Muffulettas are a close second.

I went around 2007 for Mardi Gras and no matter where I went, the gumbo was the best gumbo ever. And I purposely tried to try as many gumbos. Amazing city. I miss New Orleans the most out of all the tourist cities I’ve been to.
