As this is such a serious problem and once removed, the cats are almost impossible to trace, why have the vehicle manufacturers not added the vehicle number [VIN] to the cat’s housing, in very large engraved or stamped digits?

It’s good to have an out in potentially awkward situations. (If it involves fire, that’s just a bonus.)

This is why I put miniature steel beams around my cats. Nothing can get through them, not even jet fuel.

But he’s the most enthusiastic car guy...

Companies have become too beholden to shareholders.  and somehow only care about quarterly earnings, instead of what actually makes financial sense.  Need better earnings for January, cut R&D for December, that will show an instant gain.

Our neighbor is in a band (well, he is a band, and also it’s Austin so everyone is in a band, just calm down) and tours a lot in an Econoline that’s too big to park in the garage, so it mostly lives in the driveway. Thieves have now stolen his cat four times. He welded up a cage of rebar to the frame which I guess

This. When people are more concerned with making their next metric and performance bonus, from workers all the way up the CXOs, rather than long-term sustainability, everything else rots.

It really can’t be fixed more quickly.  Instituting more robust quality processes and designs for a company as large as Ford with as many suppliers, parts, and assemblies is literally years of work even if they had a complete disregard for maintaining profitability in the short therm.

Quality can be fixed more quickly but it would mean a commitment to stop shipping poor quality product and that would hurt profits. What he is saying is that they need to improve without slowing production or hurting profits. That will take years, but more likely will not happen. Status quo is not acceptable but we

They will just pack a shipping container full of them and send them somewhere nobody cares?

Wait what?

It’s a thief magnet!

Work at a police station and Toyota dealership. Guys, we found the ringleader.

the article talks about how Prius cats are worth about 8x the ones on trucks and SUVs.

Are you sure? You’ve already had 3 PMs this year alone. It’s kinda getting hard to keep track.

That’s nice and all but 99% of Prius cat thefts are from 05-09 models. They have 3x the precious metals of an average cat and are the number 1 target for catalytic converter thieves. I work at both a police dept and a Toyota dealer just outside NYC and we have had hundreds of 2nd gen prius thefts. I can’t recall too

I mean, they’re already under there with a sawzall or something similar, this adds a few minutes at most?

Harvey Dent said it best...you die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain.

Right, like, you’re entitled to your opinions on people. That’s totally fair. But bruh... give it a rest. You’re obsessed. You bring her up when no one’s even asked. If someone asked, and you gave that answer? It’s not OK but at least you can say ‘they asked a question and I answered it.’, but NO ONE ASKED.
