You kinda left out one major reason: Western Imperialism. While the Americans didn’t force opium on Japan the way the British did with China, a historian by the name of Mineta Fuko and a handful of other Japanese scholars wrote an account of the first Opium War that was widely distributed among the Japanese nobility

I’ve never directed a feature length film, but I doubt it’s “easy work.” Bear in mind that in the cases of major studio releases, directors are heading the production of something that makes profits in the millions.

Pretty clear to see what Garth’s look was based off of.

I will never, ever understand being a fanboy for a corporation. Be it Marvel, DC, Apple, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft or any other manufactured corporate war used to make both corporations money. How people still buy into crap like this is completely beyond me.

Not sure how mad people are, it's just extremely silly that the US division of sony is the only ones that care considering every other version including the Japanese ps4 version is fine

It worked in the 70s.

Here’s a game with crazy violence and gore but god forbid anyone see an ass!

Dammit J.J. Abrams!

Christ....who the fuck cares? I can honestly and without hesitation say that I have never once looked at a superhero in any movie and wondered who they wanted to fuck.

John Matrix is the most American name ever. His great grandparents changed it from Matrixski on Elis Island

Black Panther should not wink and nod at the audience, Will...”

You’re beating a straw man, and I’d like to address this argument in a longer reply since I’ve seen it pop up again and again here. If misogyny were the reason for the backlash against Ghostbusters 2016 or Captain Marvel, why did the same men who don’t like these properties enjoy Wonder Woman? Why are they loving Alita

The reason why is given right in the first sentence: “After ten years and twenty films, Marvel Studios finally—let me repeat, finally—has its first female superhero standalone film. And Carol Danvers is every bit as awesome as you had hoped.”  Thus the movie is “good”.

Her whimsy can be grating and it really makes it seem like she’s “playing Federation” rather than actually being an officer in one.  A little light-heartedness here and there is fine, but she really needs to save the sing-songy skipping behavior for her off-duty hours.

Also, the more this season relies on Burnham caring about things and emoting, the more obvious it becomes that she is not a very good actor.

Let’s see: Spock has a previously unknown sibling, we have to search for Spock, and a space probe gaining sentience over time? Somehow they fit three of the worst Star Trek movies into one episode.

I’ve seen a lot of dumb TV in my time, but this really deserves some sort of award for combining ambitions of gravitas with mind-boggling stupidity.
I mean, alright, hanging the whole story on Spock because he’s so loved and iconic he’ll draw in the crowds is a well-worn fan-baiting Trek tactic, but to do so and then

We did, confabulat - and we’re doing it again, because Zachary Quinto costs too much - I mean, because this is thematically a different type of Spock!

constantly trying to have these big grand moments without actually having earned any of them” - yep, that describes the aesthetic of J.J. Abrams, who was a mentor to Disco’s Alex Kurtzman.

Starfleet: Where’s Spock?
