Game is fine, but REALLY overhyped

This movie gets much more hate than it is warranted. The premise bring it is actually pretty cool, and if you could go back and remove all the tacked-on Mario tie-in stuff, you would be left with a fun sci-fi adventure flick.

You know, if you think of it as a parody or an alternate (VERY alternate) universe version of Super Mario Bros., I find its actually kind of enjoyable.
