@lamakachop: In my younger days blasting down back roads, I would always give a honk of the horn every 10 to 20 seconds just to help keep the deer out of the area. Far from a guarantee, but I like to think it helped.
@Spikeophant: That's what I've always been told. People getting hurt is usually from the swerving to miss the deer, not the hitting the deer.
