The thing that always gets me about this type of thing: it's so involved and tedious to make, but people think of it as easy because you're using processed, pre-packaged ingredients. And the people who do this would normally balk at making a one bowl chocolate cake recipe from scratch because 'its too hard'.

This is a staple of my Mom’s culinary library. She makes this for every family gathering we have; it is, quite consistently, the thing that winds up on everybody’s plate, no matter their dietary concerns or restrictions. It is Sin incarnate, and it must be consumed.

WTF. The issue isn’t (simply) the material cost to the restaurant - the issue is that you are refusing to pay the restaurant what they charge for something, and just taking it anyway. That’s theft.
