I think if you know your paleontology you can pretty much work out what cavemen ate. Could I get this from the ground, from a tree or by killing something? Then it's good for Paleo.

The basis of a paleo diet is not avoiding carbs. It's avoiding grains (i.e. post-agricultural crops). Fruit is a welcome food and we all know there's lots of carbs in fruit.
