Yeah; but I also get that people are in mourning, and that I may have initially worded my sentiment wrong. I do have to learn to be more diplomatic in order to ratchet down the intensity, and increase feelings of hope and possibility for all of us. It is so painful to see the world riven apart in this way; it feels so

A loss of 40 lives to a terrorist act is in no way less of a deal than the loss of 140 lives to a terrorist attack simply because it took place in a city people assume it should happen in. Because terrorist activity has happened there doesn’t mean the people there assume they are going to die at the hands of a

I think your last paragraph is telling. And I am saying this in hopes that you will be spared the same vitriol that I have just now experienced.

Thank you! Why the hell do they think so many refugees are coming to Europe?? They’re running from the same people who terrorized Paris. Where were the Facebook profile pics in solidarity with the people who die in Syria, Iraq, etc? The average civilian death toll is over 1000 per month for every month save one in the

I don’t blame her or any victim one tiny bit.

The US is the cause of much of that horror. It’s hypocritical to mourn one victim but ignore the tens of thousands one’s own country has victimized.

There has in fact been Tweeting and talk on the OTHER end from people who did in fact say things such as, “Black people think they have it bad here. This is what a real tragedy looks like.” I’ve placed one of the Tweets I saw online above.

That is, indeed, fucked up and I think it’s unfair and possibly biased

For writing too early. But it seems that it is always too early to open this conversation. And then we become too complacent. And then it is too late.

It was a tragic death of at the hands of terrorists in Beirut, too. And if you can’t see THAT, then there’s something wrong with you.

Oh, I definitely hear you. I was just trying to make an apples to apples comparison :) Since they were talking about an American killed in a terror attack abroad, I thought they should mention the ones killed in Beirut, too. But as a larger point, I completely agree with you.

I get what you are saying. The responses to you have been puzzling and unhelpful. You are clearly an empathic, thoughtful, considerate person. I think everyone is hurting. Lashing out is to be expected, even when it’s not deserved.

I get you. And I likely worded my initial post all wrong. And probably did find the wrong venue, and just wrote that which has been frustrating me for a long time.

Can you show me how I am doing this? Because it is never my intent to minimise anyone’s feelings! I am in a state of shock and dismay over Paris.

People are grieving, upset and angry, cranklylittlephoton. I get it. And I also get that this may not have been the venue for me to express what I did when I did. I was puzzled, too. I just took a shower, and was reflecting upon the whole thing. I would do it differently had I another chance.

I’m not sure why you’re getting these reactions. I’ve re-read your post several times, and I can’t disagree with any of it. You suggested that we recognize that the same people who murdered Americans and Britons and other people like us in Paris yesterday also murdered people less like us in Baghdad and Beirut

I keep getting this! I do not see where I was attempting to minimise anyone’s feelings!

Did you miss the part in which I called Paris a horrible, unspeakable tragedy? Apparently. Please point out where I said “we should not discuss”. It is not there. We should discuss and often and reasonably.

fuck you

Wow. Suck it, Rob Lowe. France’s borders are not your fucking problem, anyway. Dick.

I would be proud to admit that I danced like those puppets. I probably dance like one of the puppeteers... mothers.
