I’m really curious to see how they’ll deal with the pretty nasty aspects of sterotyping and racism that was rampant

Uhhhhhhhhhh. They’re using a male voiceover to explain the concept of the show (GLOW the promotion, not the Netflix show) to both the audience (you) and the girls auditioning. Your average American is stupid when it comes to wrestling and might think it’s supposed to be presented as “real” within the context of the…
All crowds, except for kids, are “in on it”. There are exceptions in every crowd, of course, but people have always gone to wrestling because it’s fun, not because they thought Kamala was an actual Ugandan savage from the deepest, darkest jungles. :)
(mostly because they had “white” in quotation marks and everyone has met at least one Hotep who tried to lecture you on the 1482 universal legal definition of the word “black”).
“.doc”? “Doc” is who you ask what’s up! Let’s all pronounce it “dodge” from now on!
It’s slightly unsettling how badly you want a sexual assault to have been committed, over just accepting that someone who had zero problem appearing manipulative, childish, scheming and deceitful (and extremely sexually forward) on TV being all those things.
Probably because it’s someone we’ve seen has no scruples, will lie to get her way, brags about her “vageen” being “platinum” and who is very (very, VERY) sexually forward. The two options were that the above described person hooked up with a guy while drunk and wanted to spin the story to her advantage, or that the…
I actually included a very clear disclaimer pointing out that obviously this happens to black people as well, it wasn’t hard to miss.
The difference is that she felt bad on her own. She learned about the history of white people in this country and felt uncomfortable. The school didn’t force any feelings on her.
I am 100% for sexual liberation and freedom, but it seems like a large amount of people simply do not understand that sometimes the result of fucking is an actual goddamn human child, and they’re utterly incapable of taking responsibility for it.
Cool, but I’m pretty sure no rational person would be okay with a school making someone feel bad for being black, either. If a child you knew was taught at school to feel bad for being black, would your reaction be “now, now, we don’t know the context and the subtleties of what they’re trying to express” or would you,…
If you teach a child that everyone has the same rights and privileges
See, and here I thought it was insanely obvious that “you know, that other community protection program relevant to black neighborhoods” referred to the BPs...
I assume she was still holding it from grabbing it earlier to protect her kids, or potentially wanting to make sure they were actually cops and not burglars trying to convince her to open the door. At this point, it’s impossible to say.
white people in this country are afforded special rights precisely due to the circumstances of their birth
It’s perfectly possible to have compassion and not be imbued with guilt for being born.
She is no more responsible for the circumstances of her birth than anyone else.
Now, see, this is ignorant and short-sighted. Unless this is some real dry satire, how can you blame anyone else for painting a whole race of people with one single broad stroke when you deny the amount of work and sacrifice that people of races beside your own have put into the fights for equality and civil rights?…
It does suggest that he has a history of perhaps not making the most responsible choices.
I’m not going to indirectly support many of my favorite bands having to sanitize their names. Doesn’t mean there aren’t names in other areas that should be changed, but it doesn’t need to be through broad legislation.
