1st Gear: But why? What does Nissan bring to the table aside from its trucks/SUVs and perhaps some passenger cars in other regions? In the US all Nissan brings is credit-challenged consumers and outdated cars.

There is entirely too much crap being put into cars nowadays. Ambient lighting, LCD screens (OLED screens would be better), countless bells and whistles that people can’t identify - it only oversaturates the driver’s attention in this age where most people can barely drive without being on their damn phones.

Let them move out. Get rid of RenCen. It might be part of Detroit’s iconic skyline (if you can call the skyline iconic), but it’s also emblematic of everything wrong with Detroit (it’s a crappily designed building).

Add another sound to the overload in new cars, what with automatic lane-keeping, awareness monitoring, etc.

Sounds more like they didn’t care if the stench reached the passengers. It was when the smell hit the cockpit that they decided to divert.

$4,500 for the automatic transmission upgrade is ridiculous in this day and age.

I smell a lawsuit from his widow... Granted, she doesn’t need the money (he made $10 million in compensation last year alone, and he’s been with the company for 4 years or so), but this is America.

Is this the same outfit that wants to fly to the Antarctic at $200k a pop?

I thought he did have a security detail but they weren’t with him that morning?

Exactly. Add to that the MBA-thought of incremental savings = more profit so I can get my bonus this quarter (at the expense of the business long-term), and you end up with idiots making decisions to enrich themselves with zero accountability while the line workers or low-level employees are left holding the (empty)

Here’s a fucking clue for the automakers: When your markets are in the midst of a recession (or on the tipping point), raising prices, adding markups, and just being assholes isn’t the way to LONG-TERM profitability. Sure, you’ll make your quarterly bonuses, but you’re screwing yourselves in the long term.

The high-end market is saturated with better, newer products from Lucid, Mercedes, et al. The S and X look and feel ancient (and are). This is the last gasp to wring some extra juice from these models by coupling free charging with them.

Long-distance commute in something quasi-luxurious?

That’s the scary part - everything is going upmarket, even if the brand is not seen as an upmarket brand.

When a regular ICE R/T starts at $45k and the Scat Pack at $50k, these feel a bit pricey for what they are. Mustangs are $50k for the GT, $60k for the Dark Horse, for comparison (aside from the ICE vs. EV).

Their next model is supposed to be called the “Earth”, so yeah....

I thought this was going to be an article about a young Army recruit who just got his first paycheck.

Since they’re literally just rolling out across the nation, you might actually get a chance to see this. Of course, it probably depends on where you live.

As long as his wife isn’t the CFO/COO, he “might” have a chance of this one working out.

The new design just went into production so hopefully this “for real”.
