I totally agree with you on method actor = asshole, but Brando remains an enigma... Was he really “method” ? From what I know, he said something along the lines of acting is so easy “any monkey can act”. And he never learned his lines. I mean, he didn’t seem to take the “craft” that seriously.

Rihanna is such perfection. (Much more interesting than Beyoncé, if you ask me, but I’m not making you choose... There’s room for both. It’s just that Rihanna does grimy so right.)

I’m just a millennial, but even I know that California’s “homeless problem” has a lot to do with deinstitutionalization under Reagan : aka closing the state-run psychiatric hospitals in the 80s, which led to an outpour of mentally ill people in the streets and a massive increase in prison.

I actually thought Dakota was way more believable, and I usually really like Jamie Dornan.
I don’t know if you read Jez’s coverage of the movie, but someone on staff hilariously described Jamie’s accent as “a Scottish robot trying to speak American” which is eerily accurate. His heart clearly wasn’t in it.

It was tongue-in-cheek obviously fake stats. Of course I don’t have proof. But it goes way beyond a “large Jewish presence”. The ramifications of power within the industry can make or break your career, and being Jewish helps a whole lot. It feels like communitarianism at this point.

I was about the reply to this post about the glaring difference between the number of films about the Holocaust and those about Slavery. Enough with the nazi films... I mean, it could be because the film industry is like 75% Jewish, and 99% White.

I haven’t read it ! If it’s good I’ll check it out.
About the gender roles, Jezebel covered it a while back. Here’s an article that summarizes most of it.

I don’t know why people are surprised by Kirsten, she’s always been a great actress. She makes otherwise superficial films palatable (see : Virgin Suicides or especially Marie-Antoinette). She nailed Melancholia and won at Cannes for Best Actress. I love her work, I like that she was open about depression, but I agree

I had a friend deal with TB for literal years (she had multiple types of it, it mutated or something), while she was living in Montreal very far from her family. I saw first hand the medication, the costs, the despair, the lack of sympathy from the hospital doctors... It sounds like hell. Sorry you went through that.

Thanks for the little recap ! Bowie is top-shelf androgyny in my book of course... The question was tongue-in-cheek, I’m not that confused ;)

I totally agree. Also, the more Bieber looks like a woman, the more my straight ass is attracted to him... Highly confusing ?

lol remember this though. A+ trolling

I’m so glad it’s finally okay on this site to not like JLaw. She’s so average it hurts. I agree with you about Winter’s Bone but even SLP was way overrated in my book.

I’m her age (like a few months older) and jesus, no character she plays is ever believable, except for like the franchises and Winter’s Bone. Ugh

This might be the best endorsement of the film that could get me to see it, haha. Well, that and Inarritu is a goddamn boss director.

I admit not being terribly knowledgeable about the various types of sexual assault... I’m just a dumb millennial who hasn’t looked into it much.

I dunno man, I don’t study law ! But being a woman sucks for sure. Thankfully I haven’t been raped... yet. (Insert the “here’s my rape” joke here.)

I totally agree. But the legal system is unfair and biased. As the author said, she would lose in court, probably. The defense would argue that maybe she changed her mind and obviously let him do it. Also, she wasn’t under duress, she said she wasn’t scared of him or anything. Lack of threat often means there’s no

Yeah for sure ! Which is why I wrote “SIMILAR.” I can relate a little that’s all.
I’d also argue it’s different bec I knew the person very well - although some seem to think because he’s a boyfriend it doesn’t make a difference.

Chill, that’s not how it happened, haha geez. I wasn’t into it, but I participated half-heartedly. If I had really minded it wouldn’t have happened, for sure. We’d been having issues (unrelated to sex) and there was resent on both sides, I was in a weird place with low self-esteem, which might explain it.
