In a counter to this article, Batman the Animated Series had the same serious/comedy balance as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I would have made the Joker’s origins a lot different as more of an ally to the Batman(And even a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne) before he takes that Chemical Bath and becomes the Clown Prince of Crime, making him more of a fallen hero.
