I think two great examples of providing a lot of information and backstory in an interesting way are the Dune sequels, and Watchmen. The second Dune book started with an interview, and the fourth one started with a news conference. It's a bit hard to explain, but both of those were able to pretty directly give the

OK, did this cause chrome to crash constantly for anyone else? Like, even considering that it's the canary build, turning on chrome instant has made the browser unstable, crashing pretty much every time I typed anything into the omnibar.

@e-gadgetjunkie: @swc oxcart: Alright, thanks for the help, I'll try that.

@swc oxcart: I realize that, but when I made a copy of the movie, during those imax-filmed scenes, there's still black on the top and bottom because of how handbrake cropped the movie, so parts of those scenes are cut off, even if I'm watching in fullscreen.

I've been having problems with handbrake. I was making a dvd rip of my copy of the original star wars trilogy, and the theatrical editions have a lot of black on the top and bottom, but there are occasionally subtitles in those black parts, and handbrake cuts them off.

@Unionhawk: I usually trust the how-to geek with problems like this:

Usually when I have a really lot of tabs open, most aren't really work-related, and just me not being able to get through an article without clicking an embedded link. So at a certain point I just move the mouse out of reach and don't change tabs until I've finished the article I'm on. I have enough browser add-ons as

@steinwaytony: Yes, just like lifehacker needed more diy pizza posts.

For all the things I've disabled and information I haven't put on the site, facebook is pretty much just a gimped, bloated way to get people's phone numbers and find out about events.

Finally, I will no longer be price-gouged by those damn brand-name post-it notes.

Wow, I was on my email when I first read this article, and there was no change, and now, a few hours later, I checked my email again and the changes had happened. Not many huge differences, but sorting contacts by last name is really awesome for me, albeit long overdue.

Even if you're looking away from the screen, if you're still inside, in a room lit by artificial light, it may not help your eyes all that much. Really, the best way to get rid of eye strain quickly is to go outside and look around a bit. Unfortunately, sometimes this isn't an option during the work day.

@Archnemesis_Goldenhair: Installing rainmeter actually is one of my summer projects for my computer, so I'm definitely gonna look into that once I do. Thanks for the tip.

@Gregsaw: That worked pretty well until now it says that I have 700 unread messages. Maybe because it's not technically compatible with firefox 4 beta, or I fiddled with the preferences too much, but I'll keep this in mind, thanks.

Does this mean you can download the flash beta and see how flash runs in the browser?

@Grewal: I think I remember using that, and the favicon didn't update in real-time. Not totally sure, that may have been Better Gmail 1 or something. I'll install that again and see if it works for me. Thanks.

@somidscr21: Thanks for the quick response. I'm on windows. What you described seems like what google notifier is, since it just sits in the system tray, and that seemed like what I wanted, but whenever I clicked it, it always said it couldn't connect to the server or something like that. And this happened even after

Hm, I just posted this using the open thread tag, I guess I should have realized it was friday and this thread would be up soon. Anyway, I guess I'll post it here too:
