My parents both hate Mother's Day & Father's Day. My mom always tells the story of how she went to church one day with a friend and there was a woman at the door giving out chrysanthemums. She gave one to mum and then looked at the friend and said - without a trace of irony - "you're not a mother, you don't get one!"

I actually think it is a mother's responsibility to mediate between her child and the world. When children are obsessed with Ariel or Princess Jasmine, maybe it is okay to dial back on the Disney a bit, and encourage children to have a diverse range of interests.

This guy is a dirtbag extraordinaire. He's regularly in the news in Australia for saying and doing offensive and unethical things, and the only reason he's still on the air is because there are apparently enough dirtbags around to tune in.

That's okay! English is my first language and I still miss out on some connotations too. ;) :)
