Agreed. Still mourning the loss of the Legacy GT Wagon and wish we could get non Allroad Avants here (yes I know the RS6 exists but it’s not affordable).
Any of the this vs. transport races. Veyron one was awesome. GT-R in Japan. Those were so much fun to watch and re watch.
I see your acura and raise you a dodge radio shifter:
QOTD!
I think they are used to a traditional shifter when it’s in park. Then you’d have to pull back for all gear options.
The BMW gearshift makes sense if you’re used to sequential type shifting. I’m assuming that’s what they were going for. Audi does the same layout with their shifters.

He has discussed this many times, especially with his time at Ford. A lot of it comes down to “we’ve always done it this way” or “that’s how the boss wants it”. It’s very difficult to innovate or break the mold in an existing company. There’s tremendous risk but also tremendous reward.
The smart ones are. OEMs still do their own teardowns, but tend to be more costly and less accurate.
There’s cultural differences baked into each company as well. Part of the reason Ford has admitted it can’t innovate or drive cost of assembly down to where they want.
