They look like gas/oil lamps, which is something that was present during the that time period. Some of the wall mounted ones look like the kerosene lamps (sometimes known as hurricane lamps). But for things like the street lamps, you had lamplighters that would light them every night and extinguish the flame and dawn.

To be 100% fair, the lower quality of the other brands are quite noticeable. I don’t know what your experience with LEGO and other construction toys like Megablocks are, but I know I have built my fair share.

I still have all the LEGO sets that I have every been given or bought since the 80s. Big old footlocker with 30 years of LEGO in it. It still gets added to also now that I have kids too.
