Sounds cool but I’m still on a family plan with my parents, so I only pay $25 a month for unlimited calls/texts and 2.5 GB of data a month. It would cost me about double to use this plan.

It simply can't be, otherwise McLaren would be disqualified. Teams are only allowed to have two built cars and only a couple ready to go spare monocoques, and I'm sure they would much rather have those handy for the next race and not sitting in New York.
I had the same idea... Only I mounted it to a piece of plexiglass and attached that to the wall mounting points on the TV. And in addition to the pi I also have a external HD and USB hub.

I imagine they don’r really expect someone to connect wired peripherals to this. The USB port is probably more for thumb drives than keyboards.
