Happens a few times a year. Most of the time they realize it before they get back on the track, but I think they aren't allowed to rejoin the race at that point.

I almost fell into the trap before having watched the race, but at least the image is fairly generic so it didn't ruin it for me.

Neither are perfect. The reason these driver are good is because of the general techniques that are learned, and adaptability. I'm sure if there was a similar way for players of Forza to drive real cars in races like this the results would be similar.
