The changes in GLBT culture over the last 50 years has been enormous. Each generation made staggering leaps. Current gay kids probably can not even wrap their head around what it was like for previous generations.

My Dad is a big car guy. 3 of my cousins and 1 uncle were mechanics. One uncle raced stock cars. We went to the track every weekend. But I don't even own a car. I haven't for about 8 years. I live in a big city with lots of cars so it isn't like I'm not involved with cars daily.

I actually read her book when I was a pre-teen. I'd already seen the Sandy Dennis movie on TV. I remember the mood of each well, but not details.

This all started because some sanctimonious politician tried to silence the perfectly reasonable Brendon Ayanbadejo. If you beat up on the reasonable people politely trying to do the right thing, the more radical side with a louder voice will step in to push back.
