You say its luck rather than skill, but I've been in tournaments on-line where a single player has came first in all 15 races. Also when playing against my friends I come first like 9 times out of 10. There definitely an element of luck, but its not so based on luck that skill cant overcome it.

Because getting first most of the time is still skill.
