Reply to my own comment above because it's too late to edit: If you don't have a grilling basket, another thing you can do is take the rack out of your toaster oven, lay it perpendicular on your grill, and it makes a little grid that keeps veggies from falling in.

Use one of those grilling basket things to keep them from falling in to the fire, and keep them far away from the flame/hot embers, so they don't incinerate within seconds.
