Well thank you for putting it that way, that I agree with, the transition has been pretty bad. I'm just so tired of people acting like it's impossible for poor and elderly people to do something that most poor and elderly people have managed to do just fine. Most people who don't have IDs don't have them because

I couldn't decide if I should giggle or gag a little.

Not as good a resemblance as this:

First thing that pops into my head is "Who the hell leaves the house without their OHIP card?". Then I had to reign myself in and remember that's a strictly Canadian thing. I guess I see this as a much smaller issue for exactly this reason, I have my healthcare card which is photo ID for most purposes(bars won't take

All good points.

That lox stock photo at the top of the page reminded me of a strange coworker I had. This is not a restaurant story, but worth telling:

Strange how we insist that people like a 97-year-old woman living in a nursing home (who has no need for a drivers license) present an official ID lest they tarnish and/or demolish the foundation of democracy, and yet people will fight tooth and nail against submitting an ID to buy a gun.

I posted reliably safe comments on Jez for years and could never get out of the greys. It was terribly frustrating because I felt like I was trying hard to be a good commenter!

I like the idea that burners can only post in text, not HTML.

I'd also like to add that burners also create an environment in which many regular commenters/community members are harassed by problem folks. The trolling that happens on the main page also happens on the community sites (groupthink for Jezebel, but I'm sure it happens elsewhere on other kinja blogs) and often takes

If burners are there to allow people to make anonymous tips, the obvious solution is that they should be single-use and text-enabled only.

This editorial is passive aggressive? It strikes me as pretty direct.

We used to have a waiting period - the 'try-outs' for comments and it took sometimes a week or two to become approved. I'm starting to really miss that.

But what if someone wants to leave an anonymous tip as to whether Jay and Beyoncé are getting a divorce?!! Clearly that takes priority over Jezebel's readership not being subjected to images of women in sexual and disturbingly violent situations while sipping our morning coffee.

oh fuck, get in my fucking mouth right now.

I would never mix breast milk and Sprite. Mountain Dew is the only soda that goes with breast milk. Everybody knows that.

What bothers me about this is that we don't record IP addresses so as to protect these burner accounts for people who might want to tip us anonymously about a story. So the company is seemingly placing a priority on making these hypothetical tipsters feel safe over the safety of the actual real live women who write
