I’ll be honest - I’ve never actually worked weekends (I’ve always worked at schools or in salaried jobs), so I’m not really that familiar with weekend/holiday pay. That said, the fact stands that they should be compensated, and then some if it’s outside of their regular hours.

Maybe something a bit less dehumanizing? A training program that sees the students as humans and clients, and not just ignorant hired help? Maybe an emphasis on multicultural awareness instead of imperialist condescension?

Was he the kind of prof who thinks he’s funnier than he is and followed it up with, “See, kids, that’s what happens when you get phobias!”? Because that’s the only way I think that story could get any worse. :(

That makes a ridiculous amount of sense. Living in PA for a good deal of my life, I’m always a bit nonplussed to see only Florida residents being reported to do things that would sound just as reasonable from an “Easton woman” or “Scranton man.”

Who would they charge? And for what? Aside from the girl’s truancy, I can’t think of a single law they could have broken by going off the grid for a couple of weeks.

Looks like it was 6 total, according to a quote in the Huffington Post:

To be honest, I can’t tell if this little town (population: under 800) is boasting racist brass who don’t want to work for a black woman or if these employees are just rankled at the idea of working for someone other than Ramsey, who’s been their boss for probably as long as some people have been working. Thank you for this. I didn’t know my life was so empty without it.

(until I got to grad school)

Let’s be real. 14 year olds are assholes who think they’re rebels, but are usually still really bad at it. The parts of them that aren’t “rebelling” are still products of their surroundings. It takes a while before some of them figure out the difference between cool and douchy behavior. (I was particularly bad at

Custom replica of the 1985 DeLorean from Back To the Future? Not as cool.

Oh my god that dress is beautiful! I love the color at the top and train!

Maybe I should call the tumblr url for the wedding which I've been promised, but for which I have no ring or proposal yet.

It's absolutely to blame. To a point.

I feel like if the dad is so willing to blackmail him now, it's probably indicative of past behavior. They might even be able to bond over the fact that her dad's a jerk. (You know, if they can get over the rest of it.)

To be fair, the blood donation question is incredibly homophobic - there's absolutely no reason why that should bar you from giving blood. It's an old relic of anti-gay AIDS hysteria.

The biphobia is strong with this one.

Agreed. If I'm not at the point where I'm telling someone my sexual history (because we're having sex on the regular, most likely), I'm not screaming out my sexuality. But by the time you meet the parents and buy the ring, that should be old news.

As an out bisexual, it makes me furious to hear about other bi folks who get into committed LTRs without talking to their partners about their sexuality. I have lost all patience and empathy for internalized biphobia.

Supernatural. The best show.
