Here's the MI statute on self defense. Doesn't cover defense of property no matter who owns it. So, if someone is stealing your car or breaking into an unoccupied home, you probably wouldn't be justified in shooting them. Not to mention that warning someone that they'll be shot/attacked by a dog or whatever can open…
