It is a system that doesn't make sense on the surface, and I've read back-and-forth arguments as to why it should be overhauled or not, so I don't think I've made my mind up on it. I do believe though that acting like someone's vote "doesn't count" is less likely to get them to the polls and have them make decisions…

Or you could vote for the Presidential Race AND the local races, because you've got a right to, and it will count for the popular vote, which is not as insignificant as people make it out to be.
