Awesome.

Oh PLEASE let them be installing spinning searchlights for eyes
Fall of 1994 - walking into the newly-added computer lab in our dorm and seeing a wall of screens all looking at porn and Pam Anderson.
I kind of wonder if that's part of the reason Dubai has gone insane with all their construction over the last decade. Maybe they really just are that out of touch, but I'd like to think some of the smarter people they know they have a time limit on how long the oil boom will last so they're trying to build up a…
There's companies that offer similar services for cars too. I actually briefly toyed with the idea recently as the car I just got is high on the list of desired cars those companies look for. But not worth it to me. And I work in advertising.
Oh, I remember. What's amusing was that the FCC was even floored over by the reality distortion field. People just assumed Apple really would instantly succeed and start eroding Google's marketshare.
I'm not necessarily saying ALL apps have to disappear or unsustainable. There's still plenty of cases where an app obviously has to be a locally-hosted solution like a game, utility, etc. But there's also tons and TONS of apps that are basically just glorified frontends to web-based data that could be better…
I still don't see how the app-based model is sustainable longterm if the market continues to be fragmented into multiple players. At some point it seems like it has to shift back to a web-based model that's more universal.
I haven't gotten around to rooting my Epic yet, but likely will be doing so pretty soon so I can use it as a wifi hotspot for my other devices when traveling. XDA has a good thread on how to do it, but this video (which assumes you have the latest official 2.2 build from Sprint - EC05) was an excellent guide IMO. …
Ordinarily I'd say don't mess with a good thing. But in this case they used the technology wonderfully while keeping with the spirit/charm of the original.
Even if they streamline the process some and open it up from the current invite-only client base they'll STILL only be limited to iOS devices. A big footprint for sure, but hardly enough to dominate the mobile ad market.
Ahh yes, iAds. Apple announces it and the blogosphere goes crazy saying how Apple's going to dethrone Google in the mobile advertising space. Charts are made projecting Apple's growth to advertising dominance which reverberate across the echochamber/blogosphere. Analysts react and stock prices jump on the news. …
The 'home' cloud streaming model has been around for awhile. I know I've personally used it off and on for years via Orb and other services. If you have a large media library and prefer that to the serendipity of other streaming type services it's a well-established (but surprisingly unheralded) option.
Sweet. Between Amazon and Google we now have 2 mega players pushing the cloud (3 if you count MS Zune pass which is more in the subscription/rental vein.) Now we can all look forward to Apple's announcement of a similar service . . . and how they invented this radical new model which will change the way we interact…
Indeed. I'm on Android, but pulling mightily for WP7 to get that 3rd seat at the table. The platform itself is great. Nice middleground between iPhone's rigid control and Android's openness.
Indeed. I used to be all about AppBrain (and still use it periodically as it's great to all your apps synced in case you should ever have to hard reset your phone for some unforseen reason.) But being able to install apps directly from the Android Market site is just amazingly convenient.
Love the new Android Market. Sitting here on my desktop clicking the links to the ones I don't have, click 'Install' and 3 seconds later it's on my phone.
They actually have had a pseudo-voting/like system for search results for years now. This just kind of takes it toward a more social level. I'd really liken it more to Del.icio.us than Facebook in a way.
Blasphemer! Stone him! You WILL like your endless pages of app icons dammit!
