I work in manufacturing and have visited China dozens of times over the past few years. China’s working conditions and quality of life have improved ten-fold over the years, and their lower costs are actually not that low anymore. In fact we’re moving production out of China due to increasingly higher costs.

Sharing the same architecture doesn’t mean they need to be the same class of vehicle. Volkswagen’s MQB underpins everything from the Golf to the Atlas, and the Golf definitely isn’t a 7 passenger SUV...
