I had a similar experience; sold my built LJ and got a JKU Rubicon and everyday I kick my self for doing so. The LJ has the perfect wheelbase for wheeling and just felt like an updated CJ8 Scrambler. The JKUR is very capable but just lacks the style and finesse that the LJ had.

Kind of makes you wonder though, was it impacts like the video above (or something even similar to Baja 1000 racing or King of the Hammers, etc) that inspired Volvo to create a system like this. Wonder if the next step would be to integrate a suspension seat and lose the traditional metal spring seat to soften impacts

This is a well written article that I’ll be sharing with my 10 yr old nephew and with his younger sister as she gets older as the values listed in the article can cross genders.

That metallic snapping/tink sound as you step on the gas, not knowing that one of your wheels is bound up, followed by the realization that your rear diff secures your axles with C-clips. Yeah, fun times

This, X2. As Wild Weasel mentioned, OBD scanners are easy and cheap to buy and with that, you’re able to get most issues solved.
The suspension is pretty easy to work on as well: axle shaft, control arms and steering components can be swapped out with basic hand tools. And adding electrical items such as lights, air

For myself, I’ve found that a mix of boxing classes and crossfit right after work helps me to decompress. Nothing like punching a bag to get rid of all of the bad elements of the day (I have no delusions of ever becoming a fighter or doing any real sparring but just hitting a bag and getting a great workout is a win

Good to know. Just installed Win 10 on my PC yesterday and all went well except for the sound driver: for some reason it wouldn’t install the Realtek audio driver. After some digging, I found that you have to use/install the 8.1 driver and then go to your properties and set the speakers as the default device. As for

This. There are some mild contenders that if pushed, could really give the wrangler a run for it’s money. Any of the rigs you listed would be a great replacement for the Wrangler (the Patrol, Land Rover, etc). For me, I just wish there were more vehicles that had a solid front axle, in my dreams I’d love to SAS my FJ

I wondered this as well. I fall into category 1, back in the old days when I’d go surfing, I could put the car key in nice little leash or wetsuit pocket to keep it secure (hiding the key wasn’t an option as people would hang out and watch others try to “hide” their key). Now a-days, you can’t get your key wet or it

That’s a pretty good idea. What would be really cool would be to team her up with Hydra Bob (played by Seth Rogan) and have them beat Thanos in the Marvel movies.

Yes! These guys are really worth watching; no scripted drama, cheap challenges and a good mix of tech/DIY.

Nice article as it’s a great starting point for those who want to get out and enjoy the trails.

I’m pretty close to my niece and nephew (ages 6 and 10) and my wife and I made a deal with the boy; if he gets good grades and doesn’t turn into a little shit and continue to help me wrench on it prior to him getting it, he’ll get my 2009 JK, which is better than a new car in a few respects:
-he knows how it works
-it’s

This made me snort.

This was really well written and goes to show that one doesn’t need a solid front axle rig on 37’s to enjoy the outdoors. It looks like a great all around vehicle where all you need to do is toss in your gear, your significant other, the dog and you’re out on an adventure.

When I go wheeling, I try not to use my lockers unless I absolutely, positively need to use them. Most of the time, a different line or backing up a touch will get me out of most situations, however if the terrain is extremely rocky or un-even (where I know 1 or 2 tires will get in the air) then it’s time for the

Great gif, all it needs is some crazy porno moans as a soundtrack and all would be good.

Nice set up they have. It’d be nice to have one just to play around on and test and see what vehicles could make through.

I wish people would get something wrong about my job: instructional designer. Right now I just get blank stares until I say “I create training videos and web stuff”

Very true. Most of the LRs that I have seen on the trail are very capable in stock form. At Hollister OHV, the local LR dealership brings out folks who have just purchased LR and shows them the basics. The electronics might take some getting used to but they work. Not necessarily my style but they work
