What the heck are you talking about? YOU are the one that wrote this: “...not just the ones that concern people that look like you.” Not ME.

WOW. Did you even read this article? Did you take two minutes to read his speech? Did you stop and think for a second that this is also worth celebrating? You’re being EXACTLY the type of person WOC complain of when we say we feel forced to choose whether we’re people of color or women, as if the two are at odds.

Uh huh. And that’s why mainstream feminist movements don’t feel relevant to a lot of people who would otherwise agree with their tenants—because they focus narrowly on the things that impact those with the most power in the movement—straight, white, cisgender, middle class women.

This post was about how white people constantly derail/appropriate/completely fucking miss the point of black liberation politics and the comments section has become a brilliant example of it.

Who the hell are you to tell a biracial woman what she should be concerned about? Like really....who the hell are you?

Saying “calm down” to someone pointing out a pretty clear example of White Feminism is not okay.

“We had our time with Jesse’s speech” who is the “We” you are referring to? You really need to check yourself.

This post is about both, and stop pretending as if you didn’t completely derail it and try to excuse yourself by saying “this happened last night”. If you didn’t want to talk about this then you should’ve ignored it completely by not commenting and just waited for the SCOTUS post. Simple.

The post is basically about both. You got told off for being rude and off-topic, and you can’t see that commenting on a post to change the subject is inappropriate? So many people love to call themselves allies, and probably really mean and believe it too, and yet continue to make the conversation about them. Even the

“Calm down. If you are concerned about civil rights then you celebrate all the wins, not just the ones that concern people that look like you.”

I found the white feminist!! Missing the point, getting defensive over nothing, and brushing aside something relevant to POC (and presumably silencing one) all in one fell

This is one of the most tone deaf and condescending responses I’ve ever read on this site. And that’s saying a lot.

I scrolled down and had the exact same thought. Like... what? Did you think Jez wasn’t going to post about it and that you really needed to hijack the convo? Can you not?!

That’s not what you said though. Don’t try and change the subject. You suggest that we shouldn’t have a post at all (with no mention of JT being an ass) because it was discussed last night. So you can miss me with this shit. You got caught slipping. Own it.

And that somehow justifies the derailment going on in the comments right now? Need I remind you that this post was not up last night when you “had your moment”. White people amaze me with their ability to constantly miss the point.

Jez really should’ve had a post about Jesse’s speech because it stands on its own as being important.

Basically, Justin Timberlake gentrified and appropriated Jesse Williams speech...then critiqued someone’s resistance.

i knowww i want to celebrate and gush about wendy davis but i feel like this isnt a good post for it because the issue in this post is an important topic.

Not unique enough, unfortunately.

“She would be alive is she hadn’t acted so ...free.”

He listened to that whole speech and somehow came away with “we are one race”. That is...a unique skill.
