Is she really not naked after the first half hour or whatever? I would’ve sworn she was, but maybe she’s just in various partial states of undress.

I mean, it’s hard to do an academic study of it (I’ve certainly tried to get funding), but I’d imagine even a survey of comments on here-always a relatively respectful comments section-would see fewer apologies for comments on female attractiveness. Not singling you out, not that I think it’s the biggest problem in…
“For this I apologize,” even said facetiously, is peak 2021. “Don’t you dare express admiration of the beautiful woman who spends half the film naked, except to complement her acting.”
A good question would be where this ranks among great directors’ final films. The below piece has it 5th, and I would personally put it above 3 of the 4 movies ranked ahead of it (Night of the Hunter being the exception).
Love to see any coverage of this film, so thanks.
Since when are cisgender women allowed to play cisgender men? #Hangchad
The Young Jeezy/R. Kelly song “Go Getta” and the Cartoon Network original film “Wakko’s Wish.” You can do a Wizard of Oz/Pink Floyd thing with them.
What happened to Jake Gyllenhaal? It was my understanding that he was in line to replace Vincent Chase (as he had in A2) when the producer tragically sold the screenplay to Warner Bros. and its studio head, who of course was still angry at Vince for standing him up for breakfast after he broke his word on letting…
I mean, I was sort of joking. I don’t disagree, but just thought it was funny because...with all due respect, why do we need to hear from her on this? Just as resident woman of the show?
“Anti-vaxxers don’t listen to the experts. Stay tuned for one of my comedy writers on whether people should get vaccinated.”
To paraphrase a line from this sketch: I really wanna hear what a TV critic at the AV Club has to say about police violence and systemic racism.
You never watched Mary Kate & Ashley movies.
I would happily trade that to be made to laugh, though, not just nod in agreement. I can’t imagine it’s a coincidence that so many current late-night hosts are alumni of the show for which the word “clapter” was created.
You don’t find 10 different shows, each with the exact same perspective on the exact same jokes, evidence of political comedy’s bright future?
The Trump era, which Stewart mostly sat out, was exceedingly hard on the idea that political satire, in and of itself, had the ability to effect real-world change—once a core part of the Daily Show appeal.
I’d go even further and ask can you imagine grilling, say, the actors in any civil rights movie about the nuances of the movement, and not getting blowback? The Daily Beast reporter is by far one of the most irritating people in journalism, and this mostly felt like shooting fish in a barrel.
I guess X (ecstasy) really gon’ gave it to him.
Yeah, I saw that. She clearly felt she had to sit on the fence a little (“I’m proud of the MLB for taking a stand, BUT...”), but I’m glad she made that point, and poor people don’t need to lose the same amount as rich people to feel it; in fact, the “far less” if that’s even the case, could still hurt. I was also a…
As with all of these measures, you wonder who this is really going to hurt. Same with directors declaring that they’ll never direct another film in Georgia.
Any time I see things like that, especially written by a 30-something white guy, my thought is just “We know what you’re doing here. It’s obvious, and it’s a little patronizing.”
