Grew up there from birth to 17 and agree with your sentiment completely. It’s a fantastic place for counter-culture adults to live and thrive, but a horrible place for kids to grow up (imo). I went back 10 years after leaving and the kids who were younger than me were just chewed up and spat out looking 10 years older

Just read your story, sounded about right for Ferndale, f that place. I attended similar riverbar parties out toward Petrolia, those weren’t overtly racist (I’m half Japanese), but if you didn’t know anyone there you would get suspicious looks and likely told to leave.

Setting: Circa 2003, Humboldt County, CA. Middle of a ‘healthy’ winter storm

Unfortunately not, and I’m only correcting because I see this misconception quite often. Hyundai does not extend the powertrain warranty to second owners. Coverage defaults back to their 5yr/60,000mile “New vehicle Limited Warranty”.

Yeah the video is pretty garbage but slowed down it looked like a full-face to me and that the visor flew off on impact with the barrier and you can see it sliding down the road at :16

Riding in conditions like that just plain sucks. If it’s raining hard and you are going fast enough your visor usually clears of rain and doesn’t fog up inside. But in those misty conditions at moderate speeds you have to speed up or turn your head side to side slowly to get the wind to blow the accumulated mist off

There is a rail standard, but BART thought they would be clever in 1972 and make a wider track for a supposed smoother and more stable ride:

Great review, one correction:

I find it interesting that you don’t want self-driving features, but find adaptive cruise control a game changer. The difference you experienced going from standard cruise control to adaptive cruise control is akin to the jump from adaptive cruise control to adaptive CC + lane centering, at least in my car that has a

What cars are close to the level of track performance/price of the V6 1LE? Perhaps I missed some while I was doing my research last year when even the cars designed as sports coupes in the same price range seemed to be nowhere close and most required upgrades to be track ready. The icing on the cake was the

Yeah the resale takes a big hit compared to the V8 and there is a smaller market. New it was $40K+ MSRP(it’s a fully loaded model + the track pack), I picked it up last year for $26k (condolences to the original owner), and the last Vroom quote I got out of curiosity was $31.5k which is what they would pay me today

“Best” powertrain is subjective, but I think your sentiment is why so many chose the V8 over the V6 or I4 options. Best for me was a linear powerband with a more modest amount of power/torque so I could improve my skills in my first ever track car. I still have 2+ years of powertrain warranty that extends to track

I haven’t seen a single one in the wild, but at every track day I’ve attended there is a handful of them and it makes me happy to see them being used for their intended purpose.

Camaro V6 1LE. An almost universally praised enthusiast car overshadowed by the fact that it was as expensive as the base SS with the V8. I go to many track days and SS 1LEs are all over the place, but I have only ever seen one V6 1LE in the wild and it is mine.

Polaris Slingshot

In high school (late 90s) I forgot to log out of my hotmail account and my schoolmates changed the name to “Jack MeHoff”. Queue my summer internship when I sent an email to my boss from that account: “Who is Jack Mayhoff”? She didn’t get it and thankfully didn’t pry.

If it’s a 1LE it’s probably safe to say it’s been driven hard, as designed. With everything they put into the 1LE package I would say the 1LE would stand up to the abuse better than a standard Camaro. GM likely agrees since they extend the powertrain warranty to track use with the 1LE. The only other manufacturer that

It’s a 2018 V6 1LE I bought in May 2020. The turbo 4s just came out so weren’t many on the used market. I specifically wanted a naturally aspirated engine and the V6 sounds fantastic, but the turbo 4s are a quick tune away from being faster.

So damn nice, I would buy mine twice!

You hit the major point, but it’s more nuanced than that. When new, dealers didn’t have many LS/LT 1LE models so I was basically getting quoted around MSRP which I think was a tactic to drive sales to the SS models. Now there is the LT1 which fully bridges that gap. On the used market however, I could pick up a low
