I agree with you but I will add that apathy encourages assholes. And at some point a stand needs to be taken. But seeing the risks should be part of that assessment of whether to escalate anything.

No, the court doesn’t appoint lawyers for you to sue someone. Court appointed lawyers happen in criminal cases, and some cases involving children, and maybe a couple other areas, but not in civil cases. 

I still agree with this, though. If a cop says “Son, this is just a warning to slow it down” and I say “Fuck you!” I fully expect to get a ticket at that point (assuming I was doing something wrong). Demeanor/recognizance/etc counts for a lot, but apparently it’s not legally relevant now. I wish I had know that sooner…

I’m actually okay with this. The world would be a more civilized place if people were afraid of getting their ass kicked legally. Gets rid of all the false bravado of getting in someone’s face knowing you’ll press charges even though you instigated the whole thing.

that has more to do with NZ police not being trigger happy like U.S. ones are, in NZ attacks like this are extremely rare so they are not trained for this sort of thing.

This is why it’s wrong to call this “white nationalism.” He’s not concerned about the nation of New Zealand, its uniqueness or sovereignty. He’s properly called a “white supremacist.”
