I agree that it’s more pleasant, but kindly disagree that it’s less distracting. Due to the ease of use of automatic transmissions (pushing 2 buttons: Go, and Stop), it has been increasingly easier for motorist to “multitask” while driving.

I honestly don’t get this comment every single time people talk about manuals. People who love driving with manual transmissions aren’t interested in a computer doing the work for them even though the computer does a better job. Yes, automatics shift faster and cars with automatics perform better at the track, but

I don’t mind the automatic, it’s the FWD that’s a killer. 310 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels? It must tug you all over the road on hard starts while turning a bit.

No one’s saying modern autos are bad, just that manuals are still way more fun! Even in cities, though I know many wouldn’t agree.

Thank you. I had the same concern.

This is a very important moment in history, when real predators are being unmasked, shamed, and toppled. This reckoning is a long time coming and decades overdue.

Yeah, his statement was fucking dumb.

eh, more so if I were defending Moore or Glitter for that matter! Now we are accusing this guy of being a pedophile too?

At the very least, let’s not equate being a female fan of a rock band with being a child or a work subordinate. I’m glad to have a conversation about the, admittedly weird, sexual dynamics in our society, but I think this take is a step back for women. It feels like he is trying to make his shame about being a horny

If someone is receptive to flirting and consents to further activity, I think that person is accountable for their actions and I don’t think the other party is guilty of a damn thing wrong. Not a popular opinion these days, I know.

We have reached peak insanity with this one. We have real live predators and we have stories like this one. How dare he use his talents as a means of getting laid.

Who said anything about rape!? Sounds like he had sex with consenting groupies.

That certainly starts to sound like it, or, people are so afraid of a backlash that they’re immediately throwing their hands up. Or people who’ve had sexual encounters with semi-famous people are posting about it and causing them to freak out.

I just read an article about and a lengthy apology from a dude I’ve never heard of who is in a band I’ve never heard of. And now I’m posting a comment on that article. What has happened to my life.

On a somewhat related note, I’m not even sure who this band is. Can somebody direct me to a Pinegrove song I would recognize?

I know! A rock guitar player being “flirtatious” with fans is about as shocking as a rock guitar player playing a guitar. What is he even saying??

There’s a growing perspective that fan/celeb encounters have in them the same unsavory power dynamics as employee/boss ones do, perhaps even moreso. I’m... somewhat skeptical of that notion, but I dunno. Feels like a heavily case-by-case kinda thing.

So, his statement is basically that, as a musician, he has a position of power over his fans that makes sexual encounters, even initiated by them, non-consensual. He is saying that musicians, like teachers, bosses, or others in positions of authority, cannot have sex with normal people (or those subordinate to them).

I’m not sure what these allegations are either or what “sexual coercion” entails.

After reading his statement, I don’t even know what the hell this is suppose to be exactly.
