Metroidvania is a silly term since Castlevania started out as a straightforward platformer. It only switched over to a more adventure-based format when the Ps1 came about.

Why not just say "metroid style?"

People are way too hard on D3 like it's still cool.

It's changed a ton since release and they're always trying to actually fix it. It's fun to play and easy to continue playing and the multiple playstyles for (most of) the classes are really fun and nuanced.

By no means a perfect product but it gets wayyyyyy too much…
