You don't need to reboot a series just to change the suit of armor. Just make a new suit of armor. Samus already has several. Heck you can even keep the old suits.

I'll admit that the first Blastman title on the Jaguar CD had it's charm, but I always felt the series was stronger before the whole 1995 reboot. Guys don't panic. All that will come of this is maybe new regulations regarding the advertisement and sale of M rated games towards minors and a general agreement by game publishers to try to be a little more sensitive to depictions of violence against innocents in their games.

There's a certain charm to playing as the kind of lame pieces like the iron or thimble. Kind of like playing the joke character in a fighting game. Except in monopoly most of the pieces are rather mundane inanimate objects. I say kill off the cool ones.
