Rowling has repeatedly said that her continued profits tell her that her actions are supported by the majority but they’re being silenced. So giving her money, even though she has already been a billionaire and will likely be one again in the future, does indeed affect her actions according to her own words.

Fun Fact: Most game developers don’t have the choice on which game they work on.

Aside from how specious the “support the devs” argument is in the first place, if the developers are comfortable making a game that they know funnels money to JKR, they can also get in the bin.

This you?

The people who made the game are already paid. The only people hurt by a boycott of this game are Rowling and Warner. Both have more money then God, but Rowling sees the constant flow of income as support for her views and Warner could be motivated to stop helping her with that.

Rowling has specifically and recently said that the huge royalties she gets are evidence that “most people” support her transphobic views, and she should keep on acting the same way.

If “millions of fans” getting mildly criticised is “punishment”, I can’t imagine how shitty you’re going to feel when you have to go to uni, get a job, pay bills, and so on.

We are long, long past the point of “Vote with your wallet” mattering to JK Rowling.”

I might have agreed if it wasn’t for the fact the Rowling herself has SPECIFICALLY stated that she believes the continued large royalties she get prove that she’s right and that most people agree with her, and she should keep on doing what she’s doing.

People who are making this argument are missing the fucking point. Rowling GETS OFF on how successful she and her IP are despite protestations. If HL made a shit ton of money it won’t matter to her bank account but it WILL matter to her continued shit-eating grin insistence that people agree with her hateful rhetoric.

You’re so right! Better eat at chic-fil-a every day so you can support those poor workers there!

“Support the devs” is such an empty argument. Do you buy every game that comes out? Why not? How dare you put those devs out of work? Don’t you know they have families to feed?

It’s like eating at chic-fil-a. If you choose to go there when it’s extremely well-known what they support, that will color my judgment of you. You don’t have to care about me, of course, but do you have any queer friends at all? Maybe a closeted trans friend you don’t know about who will now feel unsafe near you?

This is a big thing to me - she’s out there daily spreading a lot of negativity towards a marginalized population. She’s an active bully.

Even if somehow JK Rowling died today and her estate was dissolved, I still wouldn’t want to buy a game based in the world created by a TERF. Especially when even the books themselves are problematic. And if you still want to support that, thats fine. But the way I see it, your love for consumerism mattered more to

On the one hand yes, Rowling and her estate are filthy rich and don’t need the money. On the other hand, the only thing rich people enjoy more than being assholes is hoarding more money. It’s not like she’s still living off the soup line; she’s gotta pay for her lavish lifestyle somehow. There’s still merit to

An ironic comment, considering you cared enough to open the link to this story and click “reply” multiple times to make multiple comments.

Nobody would mind Harry Potter of Joanna had just taken her riches and lived in her castle and found something constructive to do with her time that’s not “be a ringleader for a hate movement.” Nobody regrets their Hunger Games fandom because of anything Suzanne Collins says because you don’t hear a peep from her.

The story is the bigger issue though, like what the hell. Why am I mowing down sentient, intelligent creatures that want equal rights?”

I haven’t bought anything Harry Potter related ever since the real life version of Dolores Umbridge decided to flap her gums and expose her bigotry to the world.
