I don’t know about the 2014+ models but there are various kits one can install on older cars to open up the scoop and make it into a “cold air intake” that duct into the top of the filter box. Never mind Kansas, this is on a suburban road in Montgomery County, PA. 2 lanes of travel in each direction, plus turning lanes. Not exactly out in the country!
I think they are also illegal in Pennsylvania, but I’m not entirely sure as the relevant motor codes for brake lights seemed contradictory last I looked. I have never seen them in use on a car in my travels around the state, but I have seen them on motorcycles.
