Well, there is are reasons why they don't constantly use the sword: Kaiju blood is toxic and can corrode things and fear of the sword breaking or being damaged and not available in a time of crisis.

There's no reason to worry. It's likely already entirely done and is just being polished. It's in great hands and i'm sure it'll be fantastic.

The only thing that surprised me about Defiance was how blatant a rip-off of Borderlands it was. The game is especially a clone, but of course that carries over into the show with the monster design and futuristic-ish desert. I enjoy cheese too, but this show just doesn't make the grade.
